Council response to corona virus

To help contain the spread of COVID-19, Warrnambool City Council is encouraging all residents to follow advice from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

On May 24 the Victorian Government announced a progressive easing of restrictions.

A number of Council facilities and spaces are being reopened as a result of these latest changes.

These include playgrounds, the skate park and dog park. These public spaces will re-open progressively as Council undertakes inspections and cleaning of each area.

The Civic Centre remains closed to the public. Council is reqeusting that you raise issues via phone or internet. When making payments, we invite you to make use of online and self-serve transactions. Alternatively, credit card payments can be processed over the phone by calling 5559 4800.

DHHS has a suite of translated resources available for people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Current status of Warrnambool City Council sites and services

AquaZone

AquaZone will offer outdoor fitness classes from June 1 while the indoor pool, gym and indoor fitness classes will be reintroduced from June 22.
Access to the classes, gym and pool will be via a booking system to ensure compliance with directions from the Victorian Government COVID-19 restrictions.
Airport  Terminal building to be reopened with social distancing required.

Closed to the public.

Beaches Lady Bay and the Promenade remain open however social distancing regulations apply. The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning has advised that Victoria Police will monitor beaches and be issuing on-the-spot fines for individuals who break social distancing rules.

Flagstaff Hill/ Visitor Information Centre

Closed to the public from 5pm, March 20. Visitor inquiries by telephone and online only.

Gymnastics Centre

Closed to the public.

Immunisation service Still operating.
Kindergartens Operating until March 28.

Library

The Warrnambool Library will reopen from Tuesday June 9 with reduced hours which are 10am to 5pm Monday to Friday and Saturdays from 10am to 1pm

Staff are still available to take your call on 5559 4990.

Fines will be waived for all library materials returned until further notice

Lighthouse Theatre

All performances have been suspended  in line with the restrictions on mass gatherings.
Patrons should visit the Lighthouse Theatre website for the latest status of all upcoming performances and events. Where possible, events will be rescheduled. In accordance with the Ticketing Code of Practice, refunds will be made where a performance is cancelled.
The Box Office remains closed to in-person transactions, however is available via the phone (5559 4999) during our regular box office hours.

L2P program Reopened.
Maternal Child Health Still operating, but consultations will be conducted over the phone. The Maternal and Child Nurse will call you at the time of your appointment.

Meals on Wheels,

Home and Community Care Services

Domestic assistance - still operating.

Personal care - still operating.

Respite and care support - still operating but without excursions.

Home maintenance - mowing and pruning still operating, limited home modification work (eg building ramps, installing rails).

Meals on wheels - still operating.

 

Outdoor spaces Dog park, skate park and playgrounds reopening.

Parks and Gardens

Saleyards (SWVLX)

Weekly sales and monthly store sales to continue while adhering to physical distancing and other rules. Please only attend if absolutely necessary and as long as your attendance in not in breach of physical distancing rules or any other advice from the Department of Health and Human Services.

Social support groups

The Archie Graham walking groups will recommence on:
 Monday 22 June 10am from on the deck out the front of the Surf Club
 Tuesday 23 June 4.30pm from out the front of Aquazone
 Friday 26 June 10am from out the front of Northpoint/Centro Shopping Centre
Volunteers will be available fifteen minutes before the walks to meet, greet and ensure group numbers don’t exceed the regulations. Newcomers welcome - please contact Clare Vaughan on 5559 4920 prior to joining the group.

The social cyclists will also resume group rides on Monday 22 June 10am from the bike shed in the Shipwreck Bay Holiday Park. Regular riders including those requiring bike hire are welcome. Please bring your own thermos and mug. Newcomers welcome - please contact Clare Vaughan on 5559 4920 prior to joining the group.

Everyone participating in a Heart Foundation walk and Social Cycling ride must:
 continue social distancing (keeping 1.5m distance from others)
 stay home if unwell (e.g. fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat etc)
 seek testing for any COVID-19 symptoms; report a positive test result 
 practice good hand hygiene and cover coughs and sneezes.

Participants are also encouraged to:

 download the COVIDSAFE app and use it at all times;
 get the annual flu (influenza) vaccination; and
 talk to their doctor about whether re-joining the walks at this stage is appropriate, particularly if participants with chronic health conditions.

Surfside Holiday Park

From June 1 the holiday park self-contained cabins will re-open.

Visitors with self-contained caravans or camper vans (own shower, toilet) will be able to stay.

Communal facilities including toilets, showers and kitchens will remain closed and general camping is not permitted.

Toilets

All public toilets are being progressively re-opened from May 13.

 

Vacation Care Vacation Care will proceed at this point from Monday March 30 for parents/guardians working in essential services. Numbers are strictly limited and a modified program will be provided to children to ensure social distancing is maintained as much as practicable. Additional hygiene measures will be in place throughout.

Warrnambool Art Gallery

The Warrnambool Art Gallery will be open from June 9 with opening hours of 10am to 5pm weekdays, 11am to 3pm Saturdays and  10am to 3pm Sundays.
The WAG is offering a reserved time of 10am-11am on Saturdays for WAG members and people considered vulnerable to COVID-19 infection including the Aboriginal community and people aged over 70 years.

Warrnambool Stadium

No sporting competitions are taking place.

Waste Collection

Operating as normal.

West Warrnambool Neighbourhood House

Closed until further notice.
If you live in the West Warrnambool or Dennington area, West Warrnambool Neighbourhood House is providing an outreach service together with Lifeline and Warrnambool District Foodshare.
