Extra recycling pick up, bin night changes, 2018/2019 holidays

News Article Date:
Tuesday, 18 December 2018

Warrnambool City Council residents will receive an extra recycling collection over the Christmas and New Year period.

All households that normally receive a kerbside collection will have their recycling bin collected along with their rubbish bin between December 23 and January 4, regardless of when their regular recycling week is.

Warrnambool City Council Manager City Amenity Glenn Reddick said that the extra service was first introduced last year and proved very popular.

“Considering last year was the first time we’d offered an extra recycling pick-up, the uptake was very good,” he said.

“Sometimes it only takes one person in the street to be in the know and their neighbours follow suit.

“On the whole, our residents are good recyclers and they want to do the right thing.

“By maximising space in their recycling bins at a time of year where it is at a premium, we are hoping to continue to encourage their good habits.

“Don’t forget that wrapping paper can go in your yellow-lidded recycling bin too, and if you have a live Christmas tree, you can take it to the community garden and drop it off for free between December 27 and January 20.”

As well as the additional recycling collection, there will be changes to the bin collection night of some residents.

If you would normally put your bins out for collection on Monday night, December 24 and 31, place them out on Tuesday night instead on December 25 and January 1 by 8pm.

All other bin collection nights stay the same, though if your bin collection night is Tuesday, please ensure your bins are out by 8pm on December 25 and January 1.
