Koroit and Kepler street upgrade

Koroit/Kepler intersection works nearing completion

News Article Date:
Friday, 30 August 2019

Weather permitting, major traffic disruptions at the Kepler and Koroit Street roundabout will be finished by Friday September 6.

Over the next week, a layer of foam bitumen will be laid on the road before a final layer of asphalt is installed. Line marking will then take place before the intersection is reopened to traffic in all directions.

The coming week’s work will be done in a way to reduce the impact on vehicles as much as possible.

The original plan was to completely close the roundabout for three to four days to finish the road surface, however Council's infrastructure department has decided to undertake the works in a way that allows half of the intersection to stay open at a time to help keep traffic moving.

Between now and September 6, the Koroit and Kepler Street intersection will operate as a T-intersection with traffic lights in the same way it has since July.

In order for the road to be built, works will “flip” between the north side and the south side of the intersection several times.

This means that sometimes vehicles will need to U-turn in front of the cinema while other times they will U-turn in front of the Tax Shop and the Flower Gallery.

Traffic will be able to travel east and west along Koroit Street throughout the works, with traffic lights in place.

Finishing works will continue to take place on the footpaths adjacent to the intersection for approximately one month, causing minor impacts on pedestrian movements. No further significant impacts to vehicles are scheduled.
